NEW YORK — Nick Swisher made his first Old-Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium a memorable one

The former Yankees outfielder lined a three-run home run into the right-field seats on Sunday, and, despite throwing lefty, started the game at third base. Swisher was one of five players making their Old-Timers’ Day debuts, along with Jason Giambi, Aaron BooneAndy Pettitte and Dion James.

The 72nd version of the game at Yankee Stadium featured its fair share of strategy.

Former Yankees pitcher Ron Guidry took himself out of the game, summoning David Cone to relieve him in the middle of the first inning. Lefty Graeme Lloyd later entered the game to pitch to Swisher, and the switching-hitting Swisher singled while hitting from the left side anyway.

Giambi came close on a couple occasions. A towering fly ball landed just foul in the right-field seats in his first at bat, and he sent another deep foul ball into the stands in his second plate appearance.

The pitching changes didn’t keep Pettitte from batting twice, and he lined a single to center field in his second at bat.

The 2018 version of Old-Timers’ Day fell on Father’s Day, and Pettitte was able to celebrate with his family on the field. That family now includes a six-week old granddaughter for the former Yankees left hander.

“It’s so special for me. I was able to celebrate my birthday the other day. It’s just been a really good weekend for us. “My grand baby was able to travel up here. It was the first time in the last few years where I was invited to Old-Timers’ Day and I wasn’t coaching. Everybody was like, ‘We gotta go to New York.’ It’s just turned into a wonderful, special time for us.”
